Reset Your Nervous System: The Shift from Survival Mode to Thriving
Reset Your Nervous System
You may have heard that our upcoming women’s retreat is called Rest. Reset. Reengage. I shared with you last month about Rest, the call to slow down and recenter on the things that matter most.
But what does it mean to reset?
As I began to notice those first signs of spring these last couple of weeks, I came back to the metaphor of the rhythms of nature. The plants that looked dead through the cold of winter are suddenly showing signs of life. Daffodils springing from the earth, tiny buds on trees, and the bright greens of new leaves as bushes begin to grow again.
Hope begins to stir as the quiet rhythms of rest begin to move into new life.
We are coming into a new season, and only because of the months of rest preceding it are these signs of life able to emerge.
re·set
/rēˈset/
(verb) begin to do things differently after a period of rest or change
(noun) an instance or period of doing things differently
Why So Many of Us Struggle to Reset
A reset can look like a lot of different things—a new way of eating, a more consistent workout routine, a deeper reliance on God, showing up in community, or striking a work/life balance that actually feels like thriving.
But most of us don’t know where to start. And if we have been living in survival mode for a while, the shift from surviving to thriving doesn’t necessarily come quickly.
This is where a nervous system reset becomes so important.
What It Means to Reset Your Nervous System
When our bodies have been under prolonged stress, our nervous systems can remain stuck in fight-or-flight mode. In that state, even the changes we want to make can feel overwhelming or out of reach. Resetting the nervous system helps our bodies remember safety again. It allows our minds and bodies to come back into alignment so that real, lasting change becomes possible. This shift from sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic (rest and digest) is what creates the fertile ground for real change.
At Rest. Reset. Reengage., we won’t just talk about these shifts—we will practice them, together, in community, anchored by simple, everyday rituals that help you stay grounded.
Practices That Help Reset the Nervous System
You’ll learn practices that calm and restore the nervous system—breathwork, somatic release, grounding in nature, meaningful connection in community, feet in the sand, and space to simply be.
These practices don’t just help you feel better for a moment. They help create the internal conditions where something new can grow.
Just like spring follows a season of rest, a reset creates the space for new life to emerge.
If your body has been asking for rest…
If you feel ready for something to shift…
If you’re longing to move out of survival mode and into a deeper sense of thriving—
This retreat may be the invitation you’ve been waiting for.
Come rest.
Come reset.
And rediscover what it looks like to reengage with yourself, God, and others in a new way.
Rest. Reset. Reengage.
